My vision for Attitude Corner started to form over 49 years ago when I was just ten years old, and my parents got divorced. Through the ups and downs as an only child in the 1960’s, I found myself rebelling and acting out, as divorce was not common during that time. Although my parents were very loving and hardworking, I found it difficult to study and dedicate time to my academics throughout grade school and junior high.

However, that attitude started to change when I attended Joliet Catholic High School (JCHS), an all boy’s private school (now, coed) in Joliet, Illinois. Because the institution was private, it was quite expensive and not something that was easy for my single mom to afford. After meeting with Father Gerald, he granted us scholarship money and allowed me to work after school to get in to JCHS.

A great thing happened freshman year where my attitude and grades started to improve based on the great families (McGrath’s, Whitley’s, Hickey’s & Currans) I spent time with. Looking back, I’ve since called this the “you are what you are around” effect where you elevate your expectations and attitude because you feel part of something bigger and aspire to live like the Cleaver family for an “Ozzie & Harriet” life. To this day, I’m still friends with all four families and owe them for upping my game and attitude in school.

Throughout my sales and sales management career, I’ve lived by the motto:

“People don’t care how much you know, until you show them how much you care.”

It’s in that vain that I formed Attitude Corner to give back to JCHS in the form of scholarships for single mothers that hope to provide a private, Catholic school education for their sons and daughters.

Over the years, I’ve been involved in fundraising with my wife, Cindy and our great children, Michelle, Mike and Matt at St. Peter & Paul Catholic School in Naperville, Illinois, as well as through the St. Francis High School Athletic Association and annual Alumni Golf Outing. The passion to give back is the purpose behind this website and scholarship.

All the best to you and your family,
Jim Massa, Joliet Catholic High School 1972
